I think I’m going to start doing weekly updates… we’ll see how long it lasts

So, I have a bunch of good ideas for VMware related Powershell scripts but I’m holding off until I finish reading Hal’s book (Managing VMware Infrastructure with Windows PowerShell TFM) so that I don’t have to go back and rewrite them all after I know what the hell I’m doing. Hopefully I’ll get some good reading time in this week and over the weekend so I can have some good scripts up next week. Or, even better, something by this weekend. I’m still shocked at how many replies the ESXi post has now! I never imagined it would go that far and have so much good content added. Thanks guys!

Generally, it’s been a busy week here. Work has been crazy and the kids are keeping us on our toes at home as well. After all that though I’m still really excited to get some new things out there for you all. I have some cool SMB projects as well that I’m really looking forward to getting feedback on.

So MommyGeekology is out of town for BlogHer09 and I’m left to keep the rugrats from tearing the place up too bad… (I know, I know, it’s ME she’s more afraid of, just let me have my delusions). However, I did totally rock the morning routine today! Geeklet woke up at 5:01am (grrrr…) so I at least had plenty of time to prepare. Everything was packed up and everyone was dressed on time. I figured out a more efficient way to get the ridiculous amount of crap into the car (serously, some of this needs to be trimmed down) and delt with the mother-in-law drama on the phone that MommyGeekology usually gets every morning. Somewhere in between I found the energy to empty and reload the dishwasher. I know, I know, no biggie for all the moms out there but I feel pretty damn good about it so I’m just going to pretend that I’m totally awesome, thanks . 4 hours down, 76 hours to go…

For the Techies: I’ve got some good articles in the works for the next few weeks when I find the time to put them together. I’ll be talking about BackupPC, Nagios, a kickass custom SMB appliance, Linux for Windows peeps, and learning Powershell. Oh, and I’m sure to throw some VMware stuff in here and there as well.

Many years ago my father told me “Son, one day you will truly know what it is to be a father when you step on a Lego at 2am and hold in the scream of excruciating pain so as to not wake up the sleeping child a few feet away”. Well, recently I lived that experience when checking on my 3 year old in the middle of the night. As I went to quietly leave the room I managed to practically impale my right foot upon a rogue Duplo. I’ve stepped on my fare share of painful things in my time (glass, a nail, pointy bondage toys, etc.) but there’s something about the geometric properties of the Lego that makes it exceptionally painful. They also seem to defy the very physics that hold the universe together as no matter how flat they lie you WILL step on a corner.

So, when I called my father expecting a very special father-son bonding moment as I told my story, what did I get? “I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!” Thanks for the touching moment Dad! I was then forced to remind him that he should be nice to me as I will most likely be the one selecting his nursing home someday…
